California Poppy Seeds - Eschscholzia Californica - Pretty & Pollinator Friendly

Quantity: 100+ Seeds

California Poppy is a member of the Poppy family, Papaveraceae. It's a robust annual plant that can be grown almost anywhere. It thrives in many soil types, but prefers to receive a good amount of sunshine and moisture. Unlike many other poppy varieties, California Poppy seeds are generally not considered to be edible, so it's recommended to only grow these for ornamental reasons. As well as ebing beautiful, the flowers are a great source of nectar, so they attract bees and other pollinators alike. Planting Poppies anywhere near the garden will increase pollination of crops and other plants in the area due to the increase of pollinators they attract. The plants are quite hardy and can tolerate times of drought and light frost.

All seeds are organic and open pollinated.

  • Growing Instructions

It's best to start Poppy seeds in late winter or early spring; we start them in early May, here at the farm. It's good to sow them directly in the ground. The soil should be moist, but not soggy. Sow the seeds on the surface of the soil. Seeds can take between 2-3 weeks to germinate, but they can sometimes take less time too. Harvest seed pods after they've naturally opened at the top.
