Clary Sage, aka Salvia Sclerea is a perennial member of the mint family, Lamiaceae. The flowers from this plant have the most wonderful refreshing aroma, and is often used in essential oil production or for skin salves. the leaves and flowers make an excellent tea or tonic too. Clary Sage thrives in many environments, but prefers to have plenty of sunshine and a decent amount of moisture in the soil. It doesn't grow very well in the shade, so partial to full sun is recommended for the healthiest plants. The flowers are a great source of nectar so they attract bees and other pollinators alike. because of this, planting Clary Sage anywhere near the garden will increase pollination of crops and other plants in the area.

    Clary Sage seeds may be planted directly in the ground in early spring, or started in pots 4-6 weeks before last frost. Sow the seeds on the surface to 1/8 inch into the soil. once established, the plants don’t require very much attention other than a good mulching and a weekly watering. These plants are quite vigorous, so just a few of them can provide a full winter supply of its highly aromatic leaves. Clary Sage is resistant to deer, pests, drought, and flood; It’s a very robust plant.
