Quantity: 100+ Seeds
Purslane, aka Portulaca Oleraceae var. Sativa, is a very nutritious and delicious wild succulent. This domesticated strain of Purslane grows in an upright manner, and the leaves are much larger than the wild variety. It’s loaded with the same nutrients that the wild strains possess too. Purslane is a succulent, so the leaves are always tender and juicy, and even a large portion of the stems are tender too. The juicy and succulent leaves contain more omega-3 fatty acids than any other plant, including avocado. It also contains high amounts of calcium, phosphorous, iron, sodium, potassium, beta carotene, thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, and ascorbic acid. The seeds are edible too, and can be ground up and added to porridge and soups for an added boost of flavour and nutrition.
All seeds are organic and open pollinated.
Growing Instructions
Purslane seeds are best sown directly in the ground in early spring. The soil should be kept moist until germinated. Sow the seeds 1/8 inch below the soil surface, or even sow them on the surface. The seeds typically take between 2-4 weeks to sprout. The plants don’t require very much attention once established other than a weekly watering, and regular harvesting. These plants are quite vigorous come high summer. The plant is an annual, but will easily reseed itself each year. Purslane is resistant to deer, pests, drought, and flood; It’s a very robust plant.
