Miners Lettuce Seeds - Claytonia Perfoliata - Delicious & High Yielding Leaf
Quantity: 100+ Seeds
Miners Lettuce is a relatively unknown vegetable in this part of the world. It’s a member of the purslane family, Portulacaceae, and originates from Western North America. It lives as an annual, but self seeds readily, so a healthy sized patch is likely to appear in the same spot each year. This being said, the plant is not weedy as the roots are very shallow, and it's really easy to pull out any unwanted plants.
Miners Lettuce leaves are tender, succulent, and slightly sweet. It works well as an ingredient in most salads, soups, and makes a great garnish too. As well as being a very delicious vegetable, this plant is packed full of nutrition. Like the other members of the Portulacaceae family, Miners Lettuce is high in vitamin C, E, K, omega-3, chlorophyll, iron, calcium, and more.
All seeds are organic and open pollinated.
Growing Instructions
Sow directly in the ground in late autumn or early winter. Indoor sowing isn't necessary, as the plants don't transplant very well, and it germinates readily in the ground. Sow seeds on the surface of the soil. Minter Lettuce is very tolerant of cold weather, and can handle frost and snow quite well. Under ideal growing conditions, a plant will grow to be about a foot tall, and equally wide. It thrives best in full sun, but will also produce a decent harvest when grown in partial shade. It likes loamy or sandy soils, and doesn’t seem to be particular to PH, but does like the soil to be moist yet free draining of water. These plants are flood and pest resistant, and can provide one with high quality food when there isn't much else available.
